Competition regulations

1. General provisions.

1.1. These regulations (hereinafter referred to as the "Regulations") define the official rules of the Battle for Science 2023 tournament (hereinafter referred to as the "Tournament") and apply to each of the teams and players participating in the competition, as well as to each member of the team, including reserve players, coaches and managers.

1.2. The Regulations are mandatory for all teams and its participants participating in this Tournament. Participation in the Tournament means full agreement with these Regulations.

1.3. This Tournament is a student Tournament and is held between students of higher educational institutions.

1.4. Dates of the tournament: September 16 - November 18, 2023.

1.5. Communication between the teams and coordination of the matches takes place on the official Discord server "MSKL | Dota 2": https://discord.gg/AnKpgX6cQ3 .

2. Rights and obligations of the organizers

2.1. The organizer approves the Chief Judge of the competition. The chief judge of the competition forms the main judging panel and the panel of judges serving the competition. The Main Judging Panel is responsible for the organization and course of the competition.

2.2. The Organizer has the right to appoint Tournament Operators – individuals or legal entities organizing competitions in a specific type of program. Control over the work of tournament operators is assigned to the Main Judging Panel

2.3. Organizers are prohibited from taking part in competitions.

2.4. The Organizer reserves the right to delete, supplement or change these regulations without prior notice at any stage of the tournament in order to preserve the sporting integrity of the tournament. The Organizer also reserves the right to make decisions on cases not described by the current set of rules in order to prevent any violations of fair competition and sportsmanship.

In the event of a situation that is not described in this regulation, as well as in the technical regulations of the types of programs, the decision is made by the Main Judging Panel on the basis of:
- References of similar situations at major esports tournaments of this type of program;

- Expert opinion of the participants of the Main Judging Panel.

2.4. The Organizer is the sole copyright holder of the competitions and the content related to the competitions. The use of any materials by third-party representatives may occur only with the consent of the Organizer.

2.5. The organizer has the right to choose any matches for the broadcast of the competition. All broadcasting rights of the tournament belong to the Organizer. Third-party casters are prohibited from broadcasting matches without prior agreement with the Organizer. Matches selected for the official broadcast of the Competition are played at the time set by the Organizer and cannot be rescheduled.

2.6. In order to coordinate the broadcast of the Competition, it is necessary to contact the Organizer through the public resources of the Competition for detailed instructions on how to broadcast the matches of the competition.

2.7. The tournament organizer has the right to protect its own products created during or after the tournament from retransmission or unauthorized use in post-production.

2.8. The Organizer is obliged to carry out activities for the organization of Competitions:

determine the conditions for admission of participants to Competitions;

implement measures to counteract illegal influence on the results of Competitions;

 ensure compliance with the norms established by the current legislation of the Russian Federation regarding medical and anti-doping support of Competitions.

3. The composition of the teams and the requirements for the players.

3.1. Players who do not have a VAC ban on the declared account are allowed to participate in the Dota 2 Tournament.

3.2. Throughout the Tournament, each team must have at least 5 starting players ("Main Players"). Two reserve players are allowed. All team members are required to study at the same university with state accreditation (license). Players must study full-time, part-time or part-time. The organizer has the right to demand from the players a valid student ID or other document confirming affiliation to an educational institution.

3.3. A player is not allowed to be part of more than one team during the entire Tournament. A player cannot change teams during the entire Tournament. 

3.4. The Player is not allowed to participate in the Tournament in several disciplines at the same time. 

3.5. All players of the team must be fully 16 years old at the time of the start of accepting applications. If the player is under the age of 18, a consent form from his legal representative (Parent, Guardian, etc.) is required (see Appendix No. 1 to this Regulation). 

3.6. The nickname of the player and the name of the team in the application must correspond to the nickname and the name of the team in the Dota 2 game, do not contain obscene, hate speech for any reason and/or other direct or indirect offensive expressions.

3.6.1. The Tournament judges may ask to change the name of the player or the name of the team if they violate clause 2.6. In case of refusal, the Senior Judge has the right to prevent the team from the competition or disqualify.

3.7. Changing the team composition: 

3.7.1. Changing the composition of the team after registration is completed is possible only in case of force majeure. The team must notify the tournament organizers of the circumstances and provide factual or documentary evidence.

3.7.2. Players who have played in the Tournament with another team cannot join the team.

3.7.3. If a team wants to replace the main player with a reserve player between games during open qualifiers, the main stage, then this must be reported no later than 5 minutes after the completion of the previous team game.

3.8. Structural divisions of educational institutions located in the same locality, regardless of the type of educational organization and organizational form (faculty, branch, institute or college within the organization of higher education, etc.), within the framework of these Competitions are considered one Educational Institution. If a structural unit decides to compete as a separate team, the organizer has the right to consider this application and allow this structural unit to participate. Structural divisions of Educational institutions located in different localities, regardless of the type of educational organization and organizational form, are considered different Educational Institutions within the framework of these Competitions.

4. Format and dates of the Tournament. 

The tournament is held in 3 stages: 

1. Qualification (Online); 
2. Play-off (Online);
3. Grand Final (Offline)

4.1. Registration for the tournament

Registration for the Tournament will be open according to the schedule in the VKontakte group (https://vk.com/mscleague ). Each team is obliged to register on the site independently. The registration link will be published on the official Discord server (https://discord.gg/AnKpgX6cQ3 ). The team is registered by the captain, through whom there will be further communication on all organizational issues.

4.2 Qualifications 

4.2.1 Qualifications will be held 1 time in 8 Federal Districts of the Russian Federation:
Far Eastern Federal District - September 16, 2023
NCFD - September 17 , 2023
PFD - September 23 , 2023
SFD - September 24 , 2023
NWFD - October 1 , 2023
UFA - October 8 , 2023
SFO - October 15 , 2023
Central Federal District - October 22 , 2023

4.2.2 Team members will be allocated to the grid before the official start of the games. The distribution of teams in the grid will be random. 
Grid format: Single Elimination (before the first defeat);
Match format: Bo1 (before the first victory).

4.3 Play-off stage

4.3.1. The period of the event: from October 22 to November 4.

4.3.2. 8 teams participate in the Play-off stage (1 from each qualification).

4.3.3. The distribution of teams in the grid will be random.
Grid format: Single Elimination (before the first defeat);
Match format: Bo3 (up to two wins).

4.3.4. The top two teams of the Play-off stage advance to the Grand Final.

4.4. Final

4.4.1. Date: November 11.
4.4.2. Match format: Bo3 (up to two wins).

5. Holding open qualification matches.

Game version: The latest official Dota 2 game patch, valid at the time of the competition.

5.1. The lobby is created by the player-captain of the team located in the upper cell of the tournament grid. The player of the upper cell adds the player-captain of the lower cell to the lobby.

5.2. The choice of the side and the right of the peak are determined by the “coin” method in the lobby. If there is no possibility of choosing a side with a coin, the /roll command is used by the team captains. In the BO3 series, after the first card, the teams change sides. In the third match of the series, a new coin toss or “/roll" is used.

5.3. Name of the lobby: “*name of the team creating the lobby* vs * name of the team joining the lobby*”; the password must be communicated only to rivals, judges on demand. It is strictly forbidden to use another name. At the discretion of the judges, this ban may be lifted.

5.4. The team creating the lobby (the one above in the pair on the Challenge grid) sends data about it to the corresponding text channel on the Discord server of the tournament. (Either a screenshot of the necessary information, or the text (How the lobby itself is designed is spelled out in the corresponding channel)).

5.5. Game settings when using the Russian client:

5.6. For more western regions, a server in Stockholm is preferred. For the rest of the federal districts (especially for the Far East), it is recommended to choose a server closer to them and more comfortable with minimal ping.

5.7. The team that destroyed the opponent's throne or forced the opponent's team to surrender wins. Defeat is considered the fall of the throne after writing “gg" in the chat.

5.8. Substitutions are allowed only between matches. Substitutions during the match/series are prohibited.

5.9. Only players, referees, as well as observers/casters who have received permission from the organizers can be in the lobby.

6. Behavior of the Tournament participants

All participants of the Tournament are expected to comply with the rules of the Tournament. Violation of the rules of the Tournament are:
● Unfair play;
● Exploiting vulnerabilities;
● Hacking; 
● Playing with someone else's account;
● Intentionally disconnecting or exiting the game; 
● Swearing and aggressive speech; 
● Using third-party software (scripts). 

For violation of the rules , the following punishments may be applied to the players of the team or the entire team: 
● Verbal warning; 
● deprivation of the right to block in the current or future game or games; 
● deprivation of the right to choose a side in the current or future game or games; 
● fine and/or forfeiture of the right to receive a prize; 
● awarding a technical defeat in the game; 
● awarding a technical defeat in a match; 
● disqualification.
